Why Free Home Security Systems Should Be Available

from: Lynn Kenilworth

Even with our tremendous advances in technology and higher household incomes, crime is still a part of daily life in the United States. We have the technology to instantly communicate with others around the world or access information with the click of a button. We have developed lasers, motion detectors, and digital cameras that take precise photos in the dark, but what good is any of our technology if it does not meet our basic need of safety?

Every year crimes rates go up while the cost of home security systems also rise. In order for us to be protected in our own homes, free home security systems should be available to homeowners and renters.

To resolve societal problems, societal participation is necessary. Providing free home security systems to all homeowners and renters is the first step toward reducing our crime rates and restoring peace of mind.

High crime activity results in high stress levels among residents. While at work, people worry about the safety of their family at home. They worry about their children, husbands or wives, and valuables. While at home, the fear of an invasion of privacy also plagues a person with stress. Emotional distress creates physical ailments and makes a person less productive at home and work. Knowing one's home is being protected by a home security system and monitored by a professional security company will alleviate this stress.

Less crime and stress will create a more productive, content society. This benefit is one of only many reasons the government should aid in providing these free home security systems. The government is constantly talking about homeland security, but what are they doing to secure homes from criminals inside the United States? Home security systems will reduce crime and the money spent on fighting and detaining criminals. They will also give security to all citizens, not just those who can afford safety. Security assistance will make citizens believe their government cares for them and their welfare.

Real estate developers and independent contractors would also benefit from providing free home security systems. Their clients would be more likely to buy or rent a home with added security, just as a person is more likely to buy a vehicle with added safety features. The government could also provide developers and builders with tax incentives to supply this service.

The availability of free home security systems is beneficial to residents, builders, and the government. Although the cost to provide these systems would be high at first, the decline in crime and increased productivity of citizens who feel safe and protected by their government will quickly pay the tab.
